The Nuts and Bolts of Getting Your Kids/YA Graphic Novel Published

During this session, agent Janna Morishima focuses on the nitty-gritty details about how to put together a strong graphic novel proposal, find a great agent, and get published. This talk is essentially a “Part 2” follow-up to her popular “Children’s/YA Graphic Novels 101” presentation (though you don’t have to have attended it to get value from this talk). Some of the topics we’ll cover include:

  • How do you format a graphic novel manuscript?
  • What makes a strong graphic novel illustration portfolio?
  • How do you know when you’re ready to query?
  • What do you need to include in a pitch package? How long should it be?
  • How do you choose a good agent? Should you pitch to multiple agents or publishers at once?
  • What types of graphic novel projects are publishers looking for?
  • How can you find good freelance editors to help you polish your work?
  • Is self-publishing a good option? If so, when, and how do you do it well?

There will be plenty of time for Q&A at the end, so bring your specific questions.
