Having worked as a senior editor at Parachute Publishing, Wendy Wax,  a freelance editor for Simon & Schuster, and an author of children’s books published by Parachute, Simon & Schuster, Scholastic, HarperCollins, Penguin, Barron’s, and Reader’s Digest, Wendy believes that it is best to avoid sending out your story too soon.

Wendy’s agenda will cover  issues such as :

  •  The “hook”
  •  “Showing vs. Telling”
  • Language
  • Waiting (and Revision)
  • Illustration

Wendy’s Bio

Wendy grew up in Michigan in a suburb of Detroit. As a child  she loved writing stories, drawing, and playing guitar and still does to this day.

After graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in graphic design, she moved to New York City and worked at a publishing company called the Kipling Press where she wrote six children’s books.

Wendy has worn many hats in her life including:

  •  Senior Editor at Parachute Press.
  •  Freelance work in magazines including UTNE Reader, The New York Times, Good Housekeeping, The Daily News, The New York Law Journal, Mortgage Banking, American Express, Highlights, and The Washington Post.
  •  Executive Editor of children’s books at Byron Preiss Visual Publications,
  • Part-time Editor at Simon & Schuster where she wrote books based on Nickelodeon shows including Dora the Explorer, Backyardigans, Bob the Builder, Diego, Rugrats, Fairly OddParents, and SpongeBob.

Her published works include titles such as:  City Witch, Country Switch (Marshall Cavendish), Even Firefighters Go to the Potty (Little Simon), Bus to Booville (Grosset & Dunlap), Renoir and the Boy with the Long Hair (Barron’s), A Very Mice Christmas (Harper Festival), Clara the Klutz (InnovativeKids), and Even Princesses Go to the Potty (Little Simon).

Wendy  currently lives in Remsenburg, New York where she writes, illustrates, plays guitar, and works as a consultant for people who want help writing a children’s book.
