Please join us for Making Books Together: The Author/Artist-Agent Relationship with Yuko Katakawa, author/illustrator and Rachel Orr, agent from Prospect Agency.

This presentation will feature a talk for the first half of the program (until c. 3 pm) when Yuko and Rachel present an overview of one artists journey to the publication of her debut picture book, and an agents role in that process. They will also discuss the revision process and the author/artist-agent relationship.

From 3-4 pm Yuko and Rachel will  lead a first-pagesstyle critique. Writers, please bring 3 copies of the first page of your picture book, Middle Grade, or Young Adult manuscript in 12 pt Times New Roman with 1 inch margins. You may use the whole page and place your title and genre at the top in a header. Illustrators: please bring original illustration plus one color copy.

Yuko Katakawa is a Japanese-born author-illustrator. Her debut picture book, LET’S SCARE BEAR (Holiday House), is based on a classic Japanese rakugo tale. Yuko lives in New York.  

Rachel Orr of Prospect Agency represents many talented authors and illustrators, including Yuko Katakawa. She previously worked as an editor for HarperCollins. Rachel lives in Hoboken, NJ.
