Join us Friday Night for an informative talk with Thalia Leaf, Assistant Editor of Calkins Creek/Astra Books for Young Readers.

“Hidden History: Finding it and Mining it for your Manuscript.”

How do you evaluate a historical tidbit to see if it fits the structure of a picture book? Thalia will take us through the steps we need to consider before we get started on our nonfiction or historical fiction manuscript. There will a group exercise, where participants will evaluate a historical article to see if it meets the criteria. While targeting picture books, this process will help anyone writing about history for kids gain clarity about their subject.

Following the event, Thalia will accept manuscript submissions from attendees.
